Tales of Mood and Mystery

Selections from Highlights of American Literature, American Patchwork & Being People

The four stories from "Highlights" and "Patchwork" display two of the more oblique elements of short story writing: mood, or atmosphere, as it is often referred to, along with mystery, or suspense.

The two stories from Being Poeple work with strong social and family themes. These reflect the direct experiences of the lives that these authors have lived, aspects of which have been woven deeply into the stories.
