Aberystwyth A.C. 2010 Club League

Use the 2010 Tony's Tracker to follow your league progress throughout the year.

Amendment to League and New Runs

At the AGM on 13th April 2010 it was agreed that we would alter the League to align with the official club year of April to March, and, that we would introduce new races and additional bonus points for specific races and team events.

Overall qualification in the league will still be awarded on the basis of best 3 races from three separate categories plus an optional score from any category.

So how does this change the league this year? There are three main changes:

1. For this year only, the League will extend over 15months starting in January 2010 and going through to the end of March 2011.

a. If you have competed in an event this year and also compete in the same event next year e.g. Tregaron Half Marathon, you will be able to choose the best of your two times to count towards your end of year points total.
b. There will only be one handicap review at the end of August when promotions and relegations will happen.
c. From April 2011 the League will go back to a 12 month cycle.

2. A new race category will be introduced for Cross Country Running.

d. A new category with up to 6 Cross Country Team Series events will be introduced
e. These events will all form part of the major Welsh Cross Country leagues – e.g. Gwent League.
f. The specific events will be announced later in the year.

3. Bonus points will be awarded as an incentive for taking part in at Championship and Cross Country Team Series Events.

g. Championship events have been added to the Short, Medium & Long road race categories . A bonus point will be awarded for taking part in these races. The races are:

i. North Wales 10mile Road Championship – 24th April 2010 click here for entry form http://wrexhamroadrunners.org.uk
ii. Welsh 5km Road Championship – 22nd August 2010
iii. Welsh 10km Road Championship – 12th September 2010

h. There are two Off Road championship events and one bonus point will be awarded for taking part either one of races. The races are:

iv. Red Kite Challenge (1st May 2010)
v. Corndon Hill Classic (Already completed – participants will receive a bonus point)
i. One bonus point will be awarded for representing Aberystwyth AC in at least three Cross Country Team series events.

League 2010

The 2010 league is a continuation of the approach we used last year where;

·         There are five race categories – Sprint, Short, Medium, Long and Trail

·         Points will be awarded for races based on your handicapped Age related performance versus the World Record for the distance you are running.

·         Overall league points will be the sum of the best three points scored across any three race categories you run in plus one other nominated race.

·         You do not have to nominate your 4th race until the end of the year

·         The final race of the year will be the Aberystwyth 10k in December.

Divisions & Handicaps

The number of divisions has been reduced this year to just three; Platignum, Gold & Diamond – (we are keeping the spelling mistake).   To increase competition in each division handicap tolerances have been increased so that there is a finer balance between actual and age related performance.  The handicap is either added to or subtracted from your actual age to give an age against which your personal performance is calculated.  Handicaps have been set based on everyone’s sores in last year’s league and so that – on average – everyone would score roughly the same points.  This means everyone in the same division is competing equally with each other.

Winning in your division will demand that you can maintain and improve on your times from last year.

The table shows which division you are in and the handicap you have been set.

New entrants to the league will need to provide some recent race results over regular distances such as 5k, 10k, 5mile, 10 mile, half marathon etc. These will be assessed to determine which division they will go into and then they will be given a handicap to bring them into competitive alignment.

The Races

The race list has altered slightly from last year’s.   Changes have been made to remove races where there was a low attendance and add races that have proved popular. i.e.

·         Borth Beach 10k added to Medium

·         Llanelli Half Marathon replaces Dale Half Marathon

·         Snowdonia Marathon replaces San Domenico 20

·         Corndon Hill Classic added to Trail as this will be a Welsh Championship Race.

·         The number of Optional races in the trail league is reduced to three. Note – a trail optional must be a minimum of 10k in distance and must be nominated by at least four runners.

The full list of races and – where known – their dates is shown below.
