This page contains links to a few video clips of the X8 in action over Greenland. Videos courtesy of and taken but Johnny, Alun and the team. It was nice to see the whole (seemingly crazy a few months before) plan come together.

Clip from the summer 2014 campaign
The on board video was just for fun - the real data comes from 14M pixel Sony alpha DSC cameras. Thanks to Johnny Ryan for this video.
Prototype expedition Summer 2013
This video shows the components, construction, and indications of the kind of data that can be collected. The digital stills are used to produce Digital Elevation Maps used to analyse the glacier. The original photos can be used to produce texture maps to enable a photorealistic 3D virtual model to be created.

Unfortunately they did not use any of the parts where I talked about Alun, Johnny and all the other people out in Greenland. I put the prototype together flight tested, configured and modified the open source Ardupilot flight software for our purposes, and figured out how to modify and interface an infrared Sony remote camera control to the flight controller. Everyone else went to Greenland and flew the missions!
