Brindley's of Derby 1881 - 1900

William Brindley (1) appears to have died in early 1881.

In 1881 Henry Howe Bemrose (53) was living at No 2 Longdale Place, Off Uttoxeter New Rd with his wife Charlotte Bemrose (nee Brindley) (49) and their children Henry H A (24) Mary E (22) Charlotte Annie (19), Edith Louisa (15) and mother-in-law Mary Brindley (75), now a widow and two servants Mary E. Campbell and Charlotte Tinworth.

In 1881 Benjamin was living in 15 South St, Derby with his wife Jane and their daughters Charlotte B Brindley, Jane Brindley, Ethel Brindley and 2 servants Lucy Twinorth and Constance Watson. Benjamin is recorded as a Provision Merchant.

In 1881 William H. Brindley was living at 7 Tenant Street, Derby with his wife Jane M. Brindley (nee Beresford) and a servant Mary White. William is recorded as a Provision Merchant

In 1881 Edward Brindley still in Middlesbrough has set up his business as an ironmonger, and is living at No 10 Victoria Rd, with his wife Mary Ann Fearn and their children, Ernest Brindley, George Brindley, Maud Brindley, Minnie Brindley and their servant Anne Platts.

In 1891 Henry Howe Bemrose (63) and now a JP was living at Lonsdale House, Lonsdale Place with his wife Charlotte Bemrose (nee Brindley) and his daughter Charlotte Annie. They have 2 servants Elizabeth Eyre and Sarah Fearn.

In 1891 Benjamin has died (1888) his wife Jane is living at 15 South St, Derby with her son John and her daughters Charlotte B, Jane, and Florence. John has taken over as Provision Merchant.

In 1891 William H. Brindley was living at 7 Tenant Street, Derby with his wife Jane and her sister Elizabeth Beresford and a servant Mary White. William is recorded as a Tailor.

In 1891 Edward Brindley has returned to Derby, is still working as an ironmonger, and is living at 97 Ashbourne Rd, with his wife Mary Ann (nee Fearn) and their children, Ernest Brindley, Maud M Brindley, Minnie M Brindley, Arnold B, Gladys G, Jennie L and their servant Caroline Brown. Ernest is recorded working as a Librarian.

Their son George Arthur Fearn Brindley is apprenticed to Francis Gilbert, Master Draper, at 4 St James St Derby After this experience he worked for Mr Harry Ranby, whose business became Ranby’s Ltd.

In 1892 Mary Ann had another child in June; there is a record of her death also in June so perhaps she died giving birth to her daughter.

1895 Sept ¼ Maude Mary Fearn Brindley married Henry Gull
1896 Dec ¼ Ernest married Ada Frances Hill.

An 1899 map says that Benjamin J Brindley was a provisions dealer at 37 Market Place. This was on the south side two doors west of the Derbyshire Advertiser office.

In 1896 George Arthur Fearn Brindley married Eliza Harriet Theaker (known as Cissie) the marriage was registered in the March 1/4 of 1896 in Nottingham 7b 315.

In 1896 William Brindley wrote the following in the family bible (which is in the possession of Anne Smith - grand-daughter of Arnold Bemrose Brindley).
