monitor re-spray mod : page 1

it all started just after I finished upgrading my computer to its currents setup. I felt that I needed another challenge. what could be more of a challenge than trying to re-spray a high voltage electrical device without killing yourself I ask???

I have one of these beasts:

(this is not my actual monitor...I forgot to take a picture before taking it apart)

After removing the six screws that hold the back onto the monitor, the back just came off with no force at all.

Notice the rather tasteful towel?? It helps to protect the screen when you have to place the monitor screen down. This monitor is able to have its back and front removed without even getting at any electronic parts, which is handy...but I somehow felt robbed of the possible near death experience!

After a good clean with soap and water plus two tins of black vinyl dye (available from halfords), this is the end result:

All in all, the project cost me £20 for vinyl dye and took around four hours to do. The dye dried very fast due to the unusually nice weather for Wales that night. Also, I was bored with the usual flashing green led, so I swapped it for a nice new blue one....very pretty!
