RAG Aber RAG: Welcome
So what is RAG all about?
Well…RAG stands for Raising And Giving, and that basically sums up what we do! In nearly every university there are RAG societies, working hard and having fun with one thing in common…they want to RAISE AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY CAN!
This year is a big year for Aber RAG, as we are 60!!! Which is unbelievable and we are very proud to say that we have been around for 60 years raising money for charity. However, there are traces of Aber RAG from the 1920s. We raise money for lots of different charities and organisations locally, nationally and globally. We work on many different levels and for many different types of charities. We take part in many major charities like Children In Need or Comic Relief, as well as holding our own events for smaller local charities like Bronglais Hospital, or our Thermal Imager Appeal which raised £28,000 over five years for a new camera.
Last year they introduced a 'Charity of the Year' in conjunction with the Students' Union. This year we want to take that further and make the 'Charity of the Year' a 'Three Charity Challenge' with children's charities as the theme. Rather than raise money for one charity we raise money for three, but three that all have something in common. We are hoping to raise £3,000 for our challenge; you will see us all around campus, in town, and holding events to complete the challenge. More information further on…
We do not only raise money in Aberystwyth, we go all over the country collecting vital pennies for important causes, last year we had great fun in Cardiff raising money for Shelter Cymru and the British Heart Foundation. By joining RAG you will not only have lots of fun, raise lots of money and make fantastic new friends but you will also have the chance to work with Millenium Volunteers to gain an award of excellence! And if you like it (and we are pretty sure you will) then you could be running for next year's committee!!!
