Fainc Ddu Uchaf, the northwestern end of the Plynlimon massif.

Nant y Llyn rushing down from Llyn Llygad Rheidol...

...and a cascading stream feeding into it.

Pumlumon Fawr and the cliff at the back of Cwm Llygad Rheidol.

Looking northwest from the northern ridge of Plynlimon into Cwm Hyddgen. Cadair Idris in the distance.

Cwm Hengwm, the return leg.

Now high enough to see the lake in Cwm Llygad Rheidol. It's a reservoir in a glacial hollow.

Pen Cerrig Tewion, the last pull before the Plynlimon main ridge.

A marshy little lake on the plateau where the ridges meet.

This trench contains one of the sources of the river Wye/Gwy.

The western cairn on Pen Pumlumon Arwystli. It's big enough to have a built-in ring shelter.

The top end of Hafren forest.

Another small lake on top of the northeastern Plynlimon ridge.

Carn Fawr, with Cadair Idris in the background...

...and Carn Fach Bugeilyn with the lake, Bugeilyn, in the valley.

The Afon Hengwm originates in this bog on the far northeastern tip of the ridge.

The bog at the eastern end of Bugeilyn. No way to avoid it, the other side is worse!

Bugeilyn and Llyn Cwm Byr in the background.

At the northern end there is a boat house. Carn Fawr can just be made out on the ridge, to the right of the boat house.

Llyn Cwm Byr, the lower lake.

One of the tributaries of the Afon Hengwm on the other side of Bugeilyn bog.

The Afon Hengwm meanders through its wide valley.

There's a footbridge at the civilisation end of the valley, near Nant y Moch.

This page shows my own views down the hillsides of Wales, not those of my employer. Does anyone really think the College is paying me to go walking?!?
