Amongst other things, I have an interest in controversial science. This usually takes one of two forms: scientific research (possibly incorrectly) rejected by the establishment and scientific theories (possibly incorrectly) accepted wholeheartedly by it. Here are a few recent areas that I feel are worth further investigation...
Cold Fusion
Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENRs), also known as cold fusion,
involves the ability to initiate a wide variety of nuclear reactions
in solid materials using much lower energies than thought
possible.
Initially dismissed as a hoax/fraud (notably, by an institution with a keen interest in hot fusion), cold fusion appears to be a real phenomenon. It has been an area of continued investigation since the Pons-Fleischmann controversy in 1989, with researchers observing the anomalous surplus energy in experimentation.
With the U.S. Department of Energy review of cold fusion and analysis of the large body of associated experimental evidence, it is hoped that the area of LENRs might become mainstream science soon.

Big Bang?
The big bang happened, right? Well, there are some scientists who
disagree. Many of the theories surrounding the current
state of the universe are derived from the initial assumption that the
big bang started the process off. For example, inflation, dark matter
and dark energy are all results of the big bang assumption and none of
which have been observed. Further information can be found here - a letter published
in New Scientist 182(2448)20, 22nd May 2004.
"Big bang cosmology is probably as widely believed as has been any
theory of the universe in the history of Western civilization. It
rests, however, on many untested, and in some cases untestable,
assumptions. Indeed, big bang cosmology has become a bandwagon of
thought that reflects faith as much as objective truth."
