Rationale
This
project, which is hosted by the Department
of History & Welsh History at the University
of Wales, Aberystwyth, and sponsored by the British
Academy, seeks to explore the political culture of Norman and Angevin
England within its broader European context. In particular, it aims to
establish a comparative framework within which to trace differences as well as
parallels in the way politics were conducted across the medieval West. To
ensure an international perspective this project includes experts on medieval
Scandinavian, German, French and Italian as well as Irish, Welsh and English
history, and that of the crusader states.
