Take one MOT failure. Remove any soft patches such as sills, front wings, slam panel, front valence rear boot and carefully replace with fresh steel. Out of season panels from your local Ford dealer make an excellent and economic substitute -especially after introduction of a new breed such as Mondeo. Remove and excess packaging such as badges and chrome/plastic strips also carefully peel off any velour tops. Take a sharp angle grinder and carefully slice off any roughness such as gutters and brackets.
Wash throughly rubbing hard with wet 'n' dry and marinade overnight in specially prepared smooth magenta cellulose ensuring complete coverage of the surface.
Stuff with the filling of your choice. In this case I have used about
3.5 litres of Rover V8 blended with some Bourg Warner Auto
Box which was
prepared earlier. To prevent separation use left overs in the
cupboard to make engine and gearbox mounts based on cardboard
templates. Whilst searching for occasional ingredients locate some
box section and angle iron to ensure the flavours of alternator
and power steering pump are fully appreciated. Gently slide a wide
but short radiator
(extract of Mazda 626) into the space under the slam panel finish
with a shake of bracket.
This is sometimes a little tricky but worth the effort.
Although it is possible to make your own exhaust manifolds, space is very tight and you can order a take away over the phone which is quite satisfactory. Depending on the chosen filling you may find that the steering column clashes somewhat with the exhaust manifold. Since the Universal Joint has quite a robust character you will find that repositioning the column to the left as it passes through the baulkhead has no detrimental effect to the gas-tronomic experience (picture). Warm gently carefully watching for leaks. Best served as a cherished vehicle, even fussy insurance people will gain an appetite.
Garnish with aftermarket steering wheel and Wolfrace alloys if available.
For desert bucket seats and matching interior provide a very satisfying finish.
