Centre for the Study of ‘Radicalisation’ &
Contemporary Political Violence
|
CSRV’S Vision CSRV has set out to be a centre of international research excellence which serves to advance the scholarly study of the use of terror in politics, locally and globally through the programmes of study at Masters and Doctoral level, the conduct and dissemination of high quality research and participation in the generation of new policy. The Centre’s ethos is based on the conviction that increased understanding of the phenomenon of political terror will contribute to a situation in which the use of terror is better understood, and alternative methods identified and advanced. The Centre’s work involves understanding and exploring diverse perspectives and approaches to ‘‘terrorism’’ including those who reject the use of the term, and those who justify the use of ‘terror’. The identity of the Centre will build on its existing commitment to multicultural, racial, cultural and ethnic diversity, and gender-equitable approaches. Through its Advisory Board, the Centre aims to establish and maintain an extensive local and international network of collaborative relationships with academia, government, policy makers, donors, politicians, human rights advocates and other stakeholders will ensure that the Centre is able to form appropriate partnerships.
CSRV is dedicated to the development of new theoretical approaches and sponsorship of the dialogue between competing accounts of political violence and terror.
The centre is committed to holding the tension between theory and practice and between divergent approaches to ‘terrorism. CSRV aims to inform the formulation and implementation of public policy, thereby responding to the need of policy makers.
CSRV’s work is designed to contribute positively to contemporary debates and dilemmas about human security, rights and risks.
CSRV strives to maintain an atmosphere in which issues such as trust and fear can be explored, as they apply to political cultures, and a respectful dialogue between critical and traditional/problem-solving accounts of ‘radicalisation’, political violence and ‘terrorism’ can be taken forward. CSRV provides a platform for innovative research, publications, seminars, workshops and conferences.
