Mark is a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography at the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences, Aberystwyth University, and a Senior Research Fellow of the City Institute, York University (Toronto). He is currently Programme Co-ordinator for the Human Geography Degree Scheme at Aberystwyth. His research and teaching focus on the intersections between environmental and political geography and focus in particular on ecological governance and urbanization . Mark is Vice-Chair of the Royal Geographical Society's Political Geography Research Group and is on the editorial boards of the journal Social and Cultural Geography and the Open Environmental Journal. At the moment he is working on a Leverhulme Foundation project exploring emerging forms of soft (or libertarian) paternalism in the UK. This three year project (2008-2011) is analyzing the impact of behavioural economics and psychology on government policies concerning personal finance (particularly gambling and pensions), health (specifically food and sexual conduct), and the environment (particularly carbon management). Mark's research interests inform his work on Aberystwyth University's Fair Trade Steering Group and his role on the Steering Committee of Transition Town Aberystwyth. Mark lives with his wife and daughter in the beautiful Magwr Valley.
