Ages 8 -15yrs

 3rd September - 1st October 5:30 - 6:30pm Penweddig Field

8th October - 10th December (excl October 29th half term) 5:00pm - 6:00pm Aberystwyth University Sports Cage

 

The format of the sessions will initially be focused upon the areas of distance running and hopefully sprints. Other disciplines may be offered in the future depending on the additional level of support provided from other coaches. The younger children will train and learn mainly through play and fun activities whereas the focus for the older group will more on technique, drills and track efforts.

Training

Just a little reminder that the sessions will recommence this Thursday 3rd of September on Penweddig School field. The dates that we will be moving up to the Cage have now changed slightly to the following week that was previously stated.

Last session at Penweddig therefore will be Thursday 1st October and the winter indoor training will begin in the Cage on Thursday 8th of October.

During the winter the main focus of the indoor sessions will be to work on the children’s speed, agility and quickness through drills and games. We will also be mixing in some fun strength and conditioning exercises in the form of fun circuit training.

It has occurred to me that the children might not be getting the opportunity to run as much as they have while we have used Penweddig field. To tackle this I will be inviting some of the older children to come and also train with me on non competition weekends. For all the other children who cannot make this training or have other commitments I would recommend that they get the opportunity to run/play as much as possible at all other times.

Club Membership

Please remember if your child is yet to join the club they must do so as soon as possible so that we are covered for insurance purposes and they can also compete for the club. Membership costs just £10 per year and forms can be downloaded off the club website www.aberystwythac.org.uk or see me before or after training.

Transportation + race fees

Many of you probably already realise that our location here in Aberystwyth is less than ideal in terms of attending competitions and as you can see, some of the fixtures are 3+ hours drive away. In order to encourage race attendance and competition the club committee has decided to offer a petrol allowance to parents/volunteers who are willing to transport the children (at least 3 children per car) to the various races. The petrol subsidy agreed is 12pence per mile. In conjunction with this, all race fees for both the SYAL and the Gwent League will also be paid by the club.

Aberystwyth AC Junior Kit

In approximately 2-3 weeks I will be taking orders for junior kit. I will be providing the opportunity to see samples of the kit on a training night for you to see before you order.

I will provide a full list with size details nearer the time but to give you an idea the kit will consist of:

Royal Blue Hoodie - £12.50

Navy + Royal Blue panel track pant £16.00

Royal Blue Lightweight T-shirt (suitable for training) £8.50

Racing vest in club colours £17.00 (apologies for the high cost, we have to get these vests made to order)

 All the above will have the club crest embroidered on the front and read ‘Clwb Athletau Aberystwyth AC’ on the back. The children will also be able to have their initials printed on the items.

The total cost for the full kit comes to a total of £54. These items can be purchased individually although if you were to buy the set the club will offer a discount of £4 bringing the cost to £50.

Payment and registration

This term I will be keeping a register of the children as they attend the session. To make this process easier I would be really grateful if you could get your child to training at least 5mins before the start of the session. The cost of the sessions this term will still stand at £2.00 and I will be recording payment of fees during the registration process. If however you would like to pay for the 16 weeks in advance the club is happy to offer a great discount of 25% bringing the total for the term to £24 instead of £32. If you would like to do this please bring the full payment of £24 along by no later than the 3rd session and I will record this on the register.
