Current Employment (April 2003):

I'm currently employed as the E-Learning Development Officer in Information Services at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. I provide support and advice for staff and students using Blackboard, the UWA Virtual Learning Environment, as well as having an interest in general e-learning issues. I am also involved in training staff and students to create Web pages, and have some involvement in the Information Services Web site.

Previous Employment - Full-time:

Between 1999 and 2003 I was employed as the Web Officer in Information Services. During that time (firstly as the Web Assistant), I worked on the corporate U.W.A. Web site, as well as the Information Services site. There are a small group of people working in this area - Simon Marshall (Web Development Officer), Liam Goldstein (Web Assistant) and Martin Pugh (Web Assistant) who also work closely with the U.W.A. Design Studio. My major project during those three years was the Undergraduate Prospectus. If you are interested in Web Development, you can take a look at my Web Resources, or the work I have being doing during the I.S training hour.

Previous Employment - Part-time:

Between 1992-1995 I read History at University of Wales, Aberystwyth. After graduating I decided to study for a Masters degree in History and English. As I didn't recieve funding for this I studied part-time (1995-1997), and worked part-time. After working my way around various businesses in the town, I got a job in the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in Feb 1997:

The Update Unit (1997-1999)
For those of you interested in agriculture, countryside management, and related subject areas, Update is a valuable resource. Update is an indexing service providing a searchable index of journal citations from scientific journals, the popular press, news releases etc.

Update is available on the EDINA service at http://edina.ac.uk/update/

PICK (1998-1999)
PICK was a subject gateway for Internet resources in the fields of librarianship and information science. This was my first move into Web pages. I started working on PICK in November 1997, and worked on the project until September 1998. My job involved the evaluation of new resources to put onto the site, along with general maintenance (link checking etc). A major part of the job involved the re-design of the opening screens to make navigation easier.

Information that was available on PICK has now been integrated into the Thomas Parry Library Web site

Office of Postgraduate Studies (1998-1999)
In September 1998, I was employed part-time as the administrative assistant to the Director of Postgraduate Studies in the Office of Postgraduate Studies. I was involved in general admin tasks in this post, but I also redesigned their web-site and added new material onto the site. The pages I have designed are no longer available ... the site is a very useful place for postgraduates, and has lots of information to help you with your studies.
