YOU don't really believe I am so boring to tell you a whole psychoanalytic-like monologue about the so many things ever crashed in my life, uh? Just some snapshots will be good enough to have a general idea..
Those years I hardly remember. Well, I just know I was born in Northern Spain before Franco's death. That looks so long ago that I decided to show this other picture. Besides, in the original picture my family and I look too cheesy (give me the 70's!!).

Moving: the story of my life. Maybe that's my main feature: moving. The Red Queen metaphor of Carroll's Through the Looking Glass..run to keep alive. Son of inmigrants in Spain, I've lived in several places from the USA to Catalonia, including the Basque Country and Old Castile,.. and it looks the story has no end!.

Links to the past. I ended up in the 80's in Celtiberia, land of my ancestors, deserted lands and cold wind..beautiful and harsh..

College years. Nothing as you'd expect: wine, mus (card game as typical from Spain as bullfight), and mechanical saws... Geez!! Yeah, I studied Forestry at the Univ. of Valladolid and Univ. of Lleida! The picture is not mine, but, man, do you know how expensive is a camera when at college?

| Fatal attraction. Sex, drugs and RNR sometimes can be such an annoying life that, tired of botany, engines, forest roads and wine I embraced ecology (I don't remember why). Of course I quit all the former addictions except one... In this picture I'm the one behind the tree..

The fractal road to Complexity. After lots of intriguing theoretical papers on ecology and a hurting sunburn in my back during a field summer season at 2000 m up in the Pyrenees, nothing could have avoided my marriage to Theoretical Ecology and, later, Complexity.

A scientific road (not graved). I went to Ricard Solé's lab to finish my Ph.D on Nonlinear Dynamics and Control in Ecosystems in 2002.

Settling down? I moved even more: one postdoc at Cornell University with Mark Bain and another at the University of Alberta with Fangliang He. I am currently a Research Lecturer at Aberystwyth University (Wales) and member of the Centre for Integrated Research in the Rural Environment (CIRRE), trying to nail grant proposals and collaborations from the social all the way down to the genetic components: that's SCALING! See my RESEARCH for more information.
