Robotic Assignment

The robotics assignment I have found to be the hardest of all the assignments done so far. When starting the first part of it I had never written on C++ before so as well as working out the algorithm parts I had to get my head around a new language.

Robotics a very interesting and fun module to take and resulted it many collisions:

Many segmentation where found along the way and slowly fixed but unfortunately collisions with walls are still a common occurrence. A lot of this was due to the gripper on the front of the robot I ended up using, the other robots do not have this.

I have found doing robotics a great experience that has greatly developed my C++ programming skills and I have learned a lot from working with the robots.

Another Weekly Post

Looking forward to going home and spending time with my friends and family over Christmas. Will enjoy a small break from doing work, though revision and group project will still be going though out the Christmas break.

The C programming assignment is finished and half printed now. Have to wait till I have change to put on my card to print the rest. The group project design document got done though in places lacked quality but hopefully the QAs will sort this out. The coding tasks have been given out and hopefully will all come together for the prototype demonstration next Thursday.

First December Post

This week nothing much has happened other than doing more work on assignments. Web assignment was in on Friday, so must remember not to go near that folder on my public file store.

C assignment went well this week I got the code done but will probable edited it again before the hand in. Just the write up left.

The group assignment I don’t think is going great. There appears to be a lack of knowledge of what to do and little coding going on. I think I am over complicating the code that I am doing at the moment but need the rest of the group to get code done too so that we can get the prototype done before the 11th. Trying to get Java servlet, JSP and xhtml to communicate with each other. Design is due in this Friday. Hopefully everything will go to plan.

The following video is what we filmed on the Sunday after the Greygnog weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kAtOJn_9Hw Hopefully we will done another one soon. I think pong is the latest idea.

Weeklyish Post

The week worked on the C assignment lots. Decided I would get rid of the hacked together version and start again this time using linked lists and arrays in more appropriate places. This nearly half the amount of code I had and got rid of a lot complex and confusing bits of code. I like pointers a lot now.

Was also trying to work on the group assignment but as we are writing this in Java and I was still thinking in a C like way not sure how well that went. I want to pass pointers to objects around.

This weekend enjoyed a short motorbike ride around Aberystwyth, I’m starting to get better now. I tried to fit the box to the back of the bike but was not so successful at this. Hoping that someone will come give me a hand to get it on. Then I will be able to ride my motorbike up to uni again.

Work Week

Been a busy week with IY job interview, web assignment and C assignment. On Wednesday went off to New Mills , Gloucestershire. Long train journey to Cam & Dursley follow by short car ride (many thanks to the driver).  Cam & Dursley really is in the middle of no where. There was a cute field mouse running across the train track. Had a good time and met some lovely people.

The rest of the week I have sent doing assignments, I think I have near enough finished my web assignment which can be found at: http://users.aber.ac.uk/heh14/cs25010/Ready for deadline on 30th.

The C assignment is getting there. I have had many memory issues along the way and have said “I need more memory” too many times this week. But it is starting to take shape now. Now I just need to print the result list, do the extended mission and documentation. Hopefully will all be working soon.

Back to lectures tomorrow, will be nice to have them back for a break from doing the assignments.

Gregynog

I had I great time at Greygnog. It was lovely to meet the different employers and those there to help us learn what to do/not do in interviews and help to improve our CV and covering letters.

I have taken a lot away from my time at Gregynog and I am more prepared for any future interviews I may have. It was lovely spending time with everyone that went and hope everyone goes on to get a great year in industry.

Today also had a fun time meeting up with the other females of computer science at Aberystwyth. Can’t wait to see the video, will have to attend the show and tell event.

Update on second year so far(and summer hols)

Thought it was about time that I updated my blog since it has been a long time. I plan to keep it upto date now.

Summer holiday was both good and bad.  I had a great time learning to ride a motor bike, and wasn’t going to give up. Eventually I got there. It was great too see all my firends and family again as I had not seen them since christmas.

When the second year started to do demonstrating. I help first years with their coding skills by explaining aspects they do not understand and help them to debug there code. I check and sign off the worksheets that they complete.

I also am an ambassador here at Aberystwyth University. I show prospective students around the University and answer any questions that they might have.

This weekend, I am currently in Greygenog on an activity weekend. Tomorrow we are going to be given mock interviews. Hopeing the interview goes well. There are also other activities happening and I look forward to seeing what these are.

Weeklyish Post

Thought I should try keeping this blog up but I am not very good at doing so. I have never blogged much before or done anything similar.
Today we had are software development assignment and I don’t think it went to well. The question paper itself confused me, so I did not include the correct information and once I had realised my mistake, did not have enough time (or space on answer sheet) to go back and change it all. *fingers crossed* Hoping I didn’t get too bad a mark.
I am well on my way to getting the AberPizza till software (for another assignment) finished couple things to change and some extra things for “WOW marks” to add.
Can’t wait for Friday going back to Wirral to see my friends/family. Will be watching the Egg Run (charity bike event) on Sunday. Lets hope its nice weather for it.
