The Mycology Research Group at UW Aberystwyth is headed by Dr. Gareth Griffith with interests in four broad areas of fungal biology:-   1. Ecology of Grassland Fungi Phylogenetics and Ecology of Waxcap fungi (Hygrocybe spp.). Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) in grassland systems. Role of Fusarium spp. as endophytes and pathogens in grasslands. 2. Cacao Pathology Pathogenesis and host specificity of Crinipellis perniciosa. Population genetics of Crinipellis perniciosa. Diagnostic probes for rapid identification of black pod pathogens. 3. Fungal Aerobiology Late blight of potatoes caused by P. infestans:- Improved disease prediction of late blight by early detection of airborne sporangia. 4. Microbial Aspects of Ruminant Nutrition Ecology of anaerobic rumen fungi. Use of genetic algorithms for the improvement of silage additive combinations.
