Thank you for requesting the ShareWare version of the TSPP plotting program. You should have been sent three e-mail messages in response to your request for the program. This message describes how to extract the program files and how to install the program on your computer. The other two e-mail messages contain encoded versions of the files for the TSPP program and the GhostScript printing utility. The first step to using these files is to extract the files from the e-mail messages. If you are using Pegasus Mail, Eudora or similar mail handling facilities then this should present no problem. You should be able to extract one file from each message (TSPPZIP.EXE and GSZIP.EXE). If your mail handler does not automatically extract the files for you then you will probably have to use the UNIX command "uudecode". In order to use this you must convert your e-mail message to a UNIX file. If you are using the "mh" mail handler then this is achieved by typing something like show 162 > temp1 This will copy message number 162 to the file 'temp1'. You can then extract the file from this message by typing uudecode temp1 This will then create the file TSPPZIP.EXE or GSZIP.EXE depending upon which message you are working on. You must now transfer the two files (TSPPZIP.EXE and GSZIP.EXE) to your PC using whatever file transfer system you have installed. If you have problems extracting these two files from your e-mail system then please contact me again and I will attempt to help. If all else fails then I will supply the two files (TSPPZIP.EXE and GSZIP.EXE) on a 1.44 Mb floppy disc (please send a blank, formatted, disk to the address given at the end of this message). TSPP Plotting Program +===================+ The following files are included in the file TSPPZIP.EXE: Documentation: -------------- README - this file MANUAL.DOC - Manual in W4W (v2.0a) format MANUAL.ASC - Manual in ASCII format Main program files: ------------------- TS.EXE TSPP.EXE TSPP.IMF TS.SYM Batch Printer files: -------------------- PS.BAT -Postscript LJ.BAT -HP Laser Jet LJIII.BAT -HP Laser Jet III LJPLUS.BAT -HP Laser Jet Plus BJ10E.BAT -Canon BJ10e DJ.BAT -HP Desk Jet DJ500.BAT -HP Desk Jet 500 PJ.BAT -HP Paint Jet IBMPRO.BAT -IBM Proprinter EP.BAT -Epson dot matrix Example data files: ------------------- TEST.TS Help files: ----------- HELP.EXE To install TSPP on your computer follow these steps:- a) Create a directory called 'C:\TSPP' on your hard drive. b) Create sub-directories called 'C:\TSPP\DATA', 'C:\TSPP\GRAPH', 'C:\TSPP\OUTPUT' and 'C:\TSPP\HELP'. c) Copy the file TSPPZIP.EXE into the directory 'C:\TSPP' and run it by typing 'TSPPZIP'. This will cause it to unpack itself and create all the files listed above. At this point you may find it useful to print out the manual. It is provided in two formats. MANUAL.DOC is a Word for Windows (v2.0) document, while MANUAL.ASC is simply an ASCII file and can be printed on any type of printer. d) The file called TEST.TS should be moved to the directory 'C:\TSPP\DATA' e) The help files are included in the file HELP.EXE. This file should be moved to the directory 'C:\TSPP\HELP'. Then run the file by typing 'HELP'. This will automatically unpack the files and load them into the HELP subdirectory. f) To start the program, go to the C:\TSPP directory and type 'TS'. g) Once in the program you must set up the directory structure. This is done in the 'System Menu' under the heading 'System directories'. In order to be able to find the file TEST.TS, you must set the 'Data directory' to 'C:\TSPP\DATA\'. h) You should now be able to load the test file using the File menu. i) Full information about the program is included in the files MANUAL.DOC or MANUAL.ASC. GhostScript +=========+ If you have access to a postscript compatible printer then you will obtain the highest quality graphical output from TSPP using that. However for those people, like myself, who do not have direct access to such a printer, the GhostScript utility allows one to print graphics on a variety of types of printer. If you want to print on any type of printer other than a postscript printer then you will have to install GhostScript on your computer. To install GhostScript:- a) Create a sub-directory on your hard drive called 'C:\GS' b) Copy the file GSZIP.EXE to the directory 'C:\GS'. Then run the file by typing GSZIP. This will automatically unpack the files that comprise GhostScript. c) Create a subdirectory called 'C:\GS\FONTS'. Then copy the file GSFONTS.EXE from the 'C:\GS' directory to the 'C:\GS\FONTS' directory. Then run the file GSFONTS in that directory. This will unpack the *.GSF files required by the Ghost Script program. The TSPP program should now be able to access the GhostScript utility. If you have any problems with printing your data then further details are provided in the manual. This version of TSPP is ShareWare. If someone you know wants to obtain a copy then they may do so by sending an e-mail message to ggd@aber.ac.uk. The e-mail message should have the words "Send TSPP" as its subject, and should not have any message. Within one or two days you will be posted an e-mail message containing the files for TSPP. The ShareWare version of TSPP can only display six core records at a time, and you can only use the symbols provided. The extended version of TSPP (TSPPlus) is available from Geoff Duller at the address given below. This version can handle data files of any size, and plot up to 21 records at a time. Also included is a facility for editing or creating your own symbols for plotting different lithological types. The program costs 65 pounds, which should be made payable to 'Institute of Earth Studies, University of Wales, Aberystwyth', and the order should be sent to Geoff Duller at the address given below.
