Customising osCommerce

After setting up the osCommerce site it was then time to customise it, as well as making it sure that it is only a demo shop, and as such would not be retailing any items.

The customisation options that you can use from the sites admin area are very limited. The reason for this is that you can only really change things like the name of the shop, the items for sale, and the logo, I believe that the reason for this is because these items are all linked towards the business end of the site, where as you have to directly edit the base files in their root directories to make any changes to the sites presentation, for this reason I have not heavily customized the site, and have merely changed a few items and the title of the site, thus making it clear that this is a fake store.

Installing osCommerce

Well I have just finished creating an osCommerce page….. Not truly sure what to do with it but whatever, at least I know the principle for setting up a basic one.

So overall it wasn’t too hard to do, had an issue with which version to use, but in the end I went with the one I could find instructions for.

Customising WordPress

The obvious step for the blog after getting it up and running was to customise it to suite my likeing.

To do this I changed the overall theme for the blog as well as installed a few plugins that I liked the look of.

The theme I installed is “Grey Opaque” I also change a few of the colours and sizes for the theme to suite my own tastes as well as adding a new banner picture.

The two plugins I have installed are called “Widget Twitter VJCK” and “Ajax Weather Widget” the first one links to my newly created twitter account and will display a few of my most recent posts, the second plugin is a simple little one that shows the weather for a specified area. I have set it to display the weather for my home town, so that I can laugh when they have bad weather.

Installing WordPress

Well, the blog is up and running, kind of.

Have had a few issues getting it all to this point, mostly as I have never done this before, also encountered a problem with wordpress where it scrambles the style of everything.

Other than that I figured most of the stuff out, and it’s up and running, if not a little bare bones.
