I'm compiling this list because of my interest in the representation of
gay males on film. Whilst it is fairly extensive and includes most of the
most important landmarks in gay representation, it is far from comprehensive.
Note that the list includes both 'positive' and 'negative' representations.
No judgement as to whether any of these are 'good' or 'bad' films is intended.
'Mainstream' films with gay characters or gay subplots are included (where known).
It's partly intended to be a convenient resource for my own
semiotics students.
When I have the time I will add brief
comments on why each film has been included. The list does not include
plotless porn, by the way!
