Chris Loftus

Hello! I am a Teaching Fellow in the Computer Science Department in Aberystwyth University. I currently teach a first year module in Java and Object Oriented Programming, two third year modules: Developing Internet-Based Applications and E-Commerce: Implementation, Management and Security. I also run thrid year major projects. I also teach a masters module on Mobile Solutions

My main admin role in the department is that of First Year Coordinator. Here I act as a point of contact for first year students wishing to discuss academic matters, as well as any issues that affects their academic performance. I am also a member of the University’s student retention committee and part of the Teaching Excellence Team within the department.

I graduated from Aberystwyth University (then called University College of Wales, Aberystwyth) back in 1985. Since then, I have worked on numerous research projects concerned with Software Engineering, some concerned with early programming language support environments (these days called Integrated Development Environments). More recently I worked as part of the ASTUTE and SAW projects. For the latter I helped run Android and Mobile Web courses for companies in Wales. These days I am teaching full time in the department.

Further back (early 2000s), I worked in industry running training courses teaching Java, enterprise Java, XML and UML.

When I’m not working I enjoy hiking, kayaking, cycling, camping and travelling. I also enjoy classical music and reading.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss studying at Aberystwyth or any issues related to my roles within the department.

Best Wishes,

Chris Loftus
