AberFSF's 2008-2009 committee members are as follows:
This is my third and hopefully final year of studying English with Creative Writing. I joined AberFSF in my first year and last year was Publicity Officer for the society.
While fantasy and science fiction are two of my favourite genres I also enjoy most types of films. Book-wise, apart from assigned reading I usually read crime and supernatural horror, along with sci-fi and fantasy.
This year I hope to revamp the society, with the help of the committee and of course our members, to raise interest and bring in new activities and ideas to keep the society fresh. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to email me or post your idea on our Facebook group.
I'm currently in my third year of a four year physics course, and I joined up with the illustrious AberFSF gang at the beginning of my second year.
Despite my unrequited love for all things sci-fi, I very frequently stray from the genre in my never ending search for the perfect film. I have a particular interest in indie and foreign cinema and tend to stay away from slapstick type comedy and horror (too scary!) - though there are always exceptions.
I also love to read and have an inordinate amount of guilt about the many weekends spent doing nothing but reading, frequently both sci-fi and fantasy, but for some reason it has yet to stop me.
This year I've tried to keep the selection of films and TV shows varied in an effort to both introduce members to areas that have yet to be graced with their presence and allow them the possibility to revisit old favorites. Any comments or suggestions are always welcome; members can either email me or talk to me in person at one of our screenings.
I am in my final year of my degree in Biology and wish I found Aber FSF earlier! I never actually realise my love for the genre till I got dragged along to Aber FSF last year by my housemate Simon (last years Entertainment officer). The films and tv shows shown were my cup of tea and the company was excellent. Suffice to say, I had a lot of fun and soon became a regular at screenings and the socials.
This year I joined the committee as Publicity Officer/Social secretary which means it is my job to try and entice people to join. I also organise the socials which I will try to make interesting for everyone. Mainly the social will involve food followed by the usual pubs but sometimes I'll mix it up with some games. If you have any ideas for socials then please let me know by dropping me an email or talking to me after the screenings.
