CHILDES (Child Language Data Exchange System) offers various resources which aid and support studying language acquisition, language development, and language learning:

• a system of conventions which enable the creation of written versions of audio- and video-recordings of spoken language
• computer programs which aid the work of transcription and analysis
• a location in the public domain for storing electronic versions of language databases
• resources for downloading electronic databases, including this one
• an e-mail list which supplies a forum for researchers
