Customising WordPress

TADA!

Welcome to the new look and feel of my blog. The current theme is Brunelleschi 1.5.4 by Kit MacAllister. I’ve decided on this theme to express simplicity and clean look. To me, ease of reading is important and this way contents will pretty much standout.

I’ve also installed a couple of plugins (as instructed and to compliment the blog) as below:

  1. AkismetThis is a recommended plugin that was available to me when I first configure WordPress. Who wouldn’t want a plugin that can keep those spammers away?
  2. Slick Social Share Buttons- by Less ChestnuttA plugin that can share automatically your blog to the readers’ social media? Sweet. Basically all the reader has to do is click the “Share” button floating at the Top Left of the Screen and share to where they want to: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, you name it.

  3. Add Link to Facebook - by Marcel BorkhostThis plugin allow auto-share to my Facebook. I decided to give this one a go as it gives so many choices and customisations. I’m still exploring this plugin, in fact, let’s see if this post will link to my Facebook  it works!

  4. PulseMaps - by Aito Software Inc.This plugin is awesome! It has a widget that shows the number of hits I get for this blog in numbers and the area they are from in terms of heatwaves on a map. Installing this one was pretty much straightforward.

  5. TeledirWidgets - by teledirA plugin that displays what country you are browsing from, what browser you’re in, your operating system, and your ip address.Found this plugin through the search option in the WordPress plugins page.
  6. WP-Spotify - by David HermanssonI intended to have some kind of player that connects from my Spotify playlists / tracks to this blog, but I couldn’t get it to work yet. There was a widget but it wasn’t really customisable. Until I find a proper plugin, I’ll keep this one deactivated for the time being.

The reason I decided to use a Spotify plugin/player instead of using a normal player is that the other plugins I found requires me to upload the song files into the server. This will take up space. I’d like to find other alternatives, for example, allow the player to link to another website or database and stream from there. Since Spotify is a famous application that allow users to stream music, so I gave it a go.

Overall, I took my time to carefully read what the plugin do and configuring them. I’m still pretty new to WordPress after all, but it’s all great so far.

Cheers and Stay tune,
Bob
