Customising WordPress

I added a facebook commenting feature to my blog posts as I felt  that having a cross platform commenting tool would increase the viewing numbers of my blog, an priority for any blogger. Having links to the blog being shared on facebook would also be a great help in pushing it up on google.

I have attempted to include a flickr viewer as well. As an casual photographer, being able to share my image portfolio quickly and easily with a new audience is a great idea. I had problems installing this widget so I chose to install a simple php widget which meant I could add code to the sidebar without having to go in to the php code for the entire site.

I also changed the theme to something I found more fun and exciting, and added some personal customisation.  No major problems happened during the installation process, again from past experience with both word press and other blogging platforms like blogger and tumblr.

I chose not to include a cross posting plugin for tumblr, due to the fact that the content of that blog is more personal and is not in line with the content posted here.

UPDATE:07.02.2012

When Richard told us this morning that his PERL script was marking out blogs using our RSS feed, I had a quick panic and went looking to make sure my RSS feed still existed. To check it I used the popular “Share and Follow” plugin. Not only did this let me see my RSS feed, but also introduced like and share buttons for multiple social networking sites, as well as linking to a few of my personal sites. As always with wordpress, the installation progress was extremely easy.
